As you are all aware, Jamaica is at a stage in its development where we must make radical changes in the way we conduct business in serving the public, if the citizens of this country are to enjoy a better quality of life. There is a need for the Public Sector to increase accountability, improve service delivery, use public resources more effectively and be more responsive to the needs of the people we serve. A transformed Public Sector must align responsibility with authority, and hold managers accountable.

November's MIS Officer's Meeting will be held at the Technology Innovation Centre Conference Room, University of Technology, 237 Old Hope Road, Kingston 6.

We will be continuing our training seminars with our fourth instalment in collaboration with InfoTech Caribbean. This meeting‘s topic is Risk Compliance and Remediation. This will be a technical and executive presentation.

Additionally, we will be issuing certificates for our Microsoft Exchange Migration Workshop that was held in October.

Exchange 2003 to 2007 SP1 Migration Workshop

As apart of our ongoing training, CITO in partnership with Microsoft via the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement will be providing an Exchange 2003 to 2007 SP1 Migration Workshop to the GOJ MIS Officers, scheduled for October 13-15, 2009.

Venue: Microsoft Jamaica Inc., Pan Caribbean Building, 10th Floor, 60 Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston 10

The goal of this workshop is to learn all the steps that need to be considered when an Exchange 2003 environment is about to be migrated to Exchange 2007 SP1.

LINUX Training

During the last week of August (31st August to 4th September) the
Department of Computing Science, UWI, will be running a certificate
course Introduction to Unix and Linux in the evenings from 6pm to
9pm in the UWI CS Lab. Anyone can attend this course.

The course will be highly practical and hands-on, there will be no
lectures and no theory. The course will run over one week with a
session every evening of the week that will give the audience an
introduction to Unix and Linux and which will allow the attendee
